Our Story
From Spanish Town to New York
Jaus Col was built at the intersection of two worlds. Kemar Haughton grew up in Jamaica, where water didn’t always come when you turned the tap — you learned to plan, to catch what fell, to make what you had stretch. That resourcefulness doesn’t leave you. It becomes the engine.
Music came first, before any of it was a business. Parties with his uncles as a boy in Jamaica, sound clashes, and a bloodline to match — his uncle was General Echo, one of the most original Jamaican deejays of his generation. By his teens Kemar was deejaying with his friends and cutting dubplates himself. The love came long before the business did.
At twenty-one, already working in real estate, he moved an artist into his house and turned the basement into a studio. That was the real start. He read the business end to end and learned the rest hands on. New York followed: a tattoo shop and a restaurant that drew platinum rappers and pro athletes, and years working real estate out of a Park Avenue office. Different industries, same lesson: proximity teaches you nothing, participation teaches you everything.
Jaus Col is what that road built: a New York entertainment company with roots reaching straight back to Jamaica. Multiple number one Reggae albums and singles across iTunes and Amazon Music. Production credits on Billboard-charting reggae albums, including a top-ten debut. Incorporated in New York in 2012.
“I want to leave the planet in a better way than I came here.”
